Phonics & Spelling

Phonics Intent

We value reading as a key life skill, and we are dedicated to enabling our pupils to becomelifelong readers.

The systematic teaching of phonics has a high priority throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. Following the Letters and Sounds approach, children work through the different phases, learning and developing their phonics sounds and knowledge to enable them to become confident and fluent readers. Teachers draw upon observations and continuous assessment to ensure children are stretched and challenged and to identify children who may need additional support.
